Habitat for Humanity Sri Lanka provided financial assistance to 1,986 of the most vulnerable families adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu and Batticaloa, through the generous support of European Union in Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

Financial assistance was provided to the most vulnerable beneficiaries of the European Union funded ‘Homes not Houses’ project and daily-wage labourers of the earth block production yards who have been left without critical resources for survival during the pandemic. Cash grants of LKR 12,000 are awarded per family, in two installments via bank transfers, minimizing physical contact and maintaining health and safety measures. The selected beneficiaries have been endorsed to receive financial assistance by their respective Divisional Secretariat and Government Agent as low-income families with no permanent income.

The ‘Homes not Houses’ project jointly implemented by Habitat for Humanity and World Vision Lanka seeks to build sustainable communities through the construction of 2,366 permanent houses and social infrastructure, bridging the gap between relief, rehabilitation and development for resilient and secure communities in the North and East of Sri Lanka.
